I rarely — if ever — post about beauty stuff in this blog, but let’s admit that there are procedures we need to undergo as part of our skincare. One of the these is warts removal. This is actually my first time to try it and I got the service from Beauty and Skin Goals (BSG) Clinic in Bacoor, Cavite.

What are warts

Essentially, warts are harmless growths on the skin or mucous membrane. It’s recommended to get them removed to prevent them from growing bigger or spreading in other parts of the body. There are different types of warts including flat warts, milial warts, and skin tags.

The usual methods for warts removal include electrocautery and laser treatment. The first uses a needle-like hot tip to burn off the wart, with minimal scabs.

Treatment

So I booked an appointment at Beauty and Skin Goals (BSG) Clinic for warts removal via electrocautery.

As I said, this was my first time so I was a bit nervous. It helped the clinic looked clean and immaculate and the staff was professional — it made me feel at ease.

Once I confirmed my appointment, one of the staff called me and we got inside a small room. (I’m sorry, I forgot to ask her name!) I laid down so we could start with the procedure.

First, the staff cleansed my face with a cream. Then she applied anesthetic cream to my face and neck and then it was left on for about 40 minutes. I just stayed inside the room and took a nap.

Afterwards, she removed the excess cream and started to use a needle-like cautery tool to remove the warts. I was a bit worried about this because from a past experience a regular dose of anesthetic doesn’t seem to be fully effective on me. I didn’t mention this because I wasn’t sure if it was just a one-time thing and I didn’t want the staff to overapply the cream.

Surprisingly, each zap was tolerable. The most notable thing about the procedure is the smell of burnt skin. There were parts that hurt a bit more — specifically on the forehead where the skin is close to the bone and the neck where the skin is thinner. I also had a few around the eyes — this is another sensitive area and removing the warts here made my eyes water.

Whenever the cautery touches on sensitive skin, I couldn’t help but let out a jolt. The staff would pause and then ask me if it’s okay to continue. I really appreciated this because I had seconds to collect myself.

I’m not sure how many warts I had but since this was my first treatment, so let’s just say — a lot.

When all the warts had been burnt off, the staff applied antibacterial cream on my face and then I was free to get up.

Setup. This was after the treatment so you can see the antibacterial cream on my face.

I looked at my face and I had a lot of dark spots from the burnt off warts. I also had reddish skin around the neck. This is the areas where I had stubborn skin tags.

The whole procedure took about 2 hours. If you only have a handful of warts to remove, it would take even less time.

Aftercare

I was told not to wash my face for 24 hours. I was also offered a face mask to wear outside. I didn’t use it as I didn’t have any other appointment that day anyway except for a dinner outside. I was careful not to get dirt on my skin.

On the following days I took care not to get exposed to the sun. As I’m always out and about, this meant I had to plan out my schedule to avoid beach trips!

By the way, even on regular days, wearing sunblock is also recommended.

After 6-7 days, the scabs fell off on their own and there wasn’t any mark left. To be honest, I felt so clean after this. I was used to touching the back of my neck and feel a skin tag there, and now there’s none — I had to get used to this new feeling! I’m glad I took this step to take care of my skin.

Other things to know

It’s recommended to get this procedure once or twice a year.

Warts is viral which means you could’ve gotten it from other people. Be careful when using someone’s towel or clothes or when greeting someone with a peck on the cheeks.
