NYC is one of the most popular cities in the world, and while it is known for many things, it is primarily known for two things: its iconic buildings and incredible food. Here are our top recommendations for both!
1. Empire State Building
When people think of famous NYC sites, the Empire State Building is often one of the first that comes to mind. For 40 years it was even the tallest building in the world! The Empire State Building’s construction started in 1929 and its Art Deco style is incredibly impressive. With 6,500 windows and made up of granite and limestone, it is no surprise that it was named one of the Seen Wonders of the modern world.
2. Flatiron Building
The Fuller Building, also known as the Flatiron Building, is one the first buildings constructed to use a steel frame and stands out as a turning point in the construction methods used in the city. With classical influences, this building is an iconic image in New York and designer Daniel Burnham sure made a name for himself with this Beaux-Arts style construction. It is a triangular shaped building that has a curved façade, much different than any typical build that you can see across the city and even the States.
3. One World Trade Center
The One World Trade Center, located in Manhattan, is New York’s tallest skyscraper. After the original World Trade Center was destroyed, the One World Trade Center, also known as the Freedom Tower, was built. The building is connected to the underground transport network, and arriving at this center is an experience in it of itself, before you even get out to the rest of NYC to explore.
4. The Chrysler Building
The Chrysler Building is a gorgeous example of Art Deco architecture in NYC and is certainly one of the most popular in NYC. While it was constructed in an effort to be the world’s tallest skyscraper and was quickly beat to that title after the construction of the Empire State Building shortly after, it still stands tall with a gorgeous mural on the ceiling and standout stonework on the interior.
5. Rockefeller Center
The Rockefeller Center is a large complex made up of 19 buildings. Commissioned by the Rockefeller family, it also includes integrated public art and was one of the last projects to do so in the States. Nowadays, the office buildings are home to NBC network, Radio City Music Hall, and other big names.
